Swimming at Huia

On Monday 31 August, we start our  swimming programme  at Huia Pool. Every day for the next 2 weeks you need to bring your towel, togs, goggles and a warm sweatshirt to put on after swimming.
These all need to be named and brought to school in a bag big enough to put your clothes and shoes in when you take them off.  A reusable supermarket bag is ideal for this as it has a wide opening and is large enough to fit all their clothes, shoes, coat etc. in, easily.
Girls need to have their hair tied up to keep it out of their eyes and off their face.

Storylines

Today we had Ethan and Jess from Storylines come and do a show for us. It was called 'World's Apart' and was about Molly who lived in 1915 and Edward who lived in 2015.
We really enjoyed it as we had read some of the stories they used.

Fish Kites

On Friday we learned that Japanese children celebrate Children's Day and they fly kites. We made fish kites and had fun flying them. We also shared them at assembly.

Story time with Ikumi

Today Ikumi came to school to share 2 Japanese stories with us. She used a very special wooden story box called a kamishibai.
She told us 2 stories.
The first one was called 'Neko no Taisou' (A Cat's Exercise).
The second one was called 'Buta no Itsutsugo' (Pig Quintuplets).
It was fun as the stories were interactive and we had to help Ikumi.

Wacky Wednesday

Today we all dressed up in a wacky way and we had a school parade. It was fun to see everyone dressed up.

Fractions

Today, Room 6 invited us to join them to make fairy bread.
We cut our bread in half. This means we cut it into 2 pieces. We made triangles and rectangles.
Next we made another cut so we had 4 pieces. This means we cut our bread into quarters.  It was fun as we were then allowed to eat our fairy bread 1/4 by 1/4.

Captain Jack came to visit

This morning, Captain Jack came to visit our class. He announced his arrival with a very loud whistle!! He was fairly shy as he showed how he eats his millet.
Thank you Jonah for bringing Captain Jack to visit us.

School in Japan

Today James and Paul spent the afternoon telling us about life at school in Japan. We loved listening to  the  ways things are different to us here in NZ.
One of the big differences is that they have hot school lunches and they serve it up and eat in the classroom. If you do not like something, you still have to eat it!! (I think our mums and dads would like us to do that!). They also cleaned their teeth after lunch.
After lunch, the children and the teachers have to clean the school. We think this would be hard work.
They shared a video with us about school lunches and we all found this really interesting.

Paul shared a legend with us and James played the guitar as we sang "Kira, Kira Boshi'.

They made us a toy similar to one they have in Japan. We had a lot of fun catching the ball in the cup.

Badger comes to visit

Thank you Josh for bringing Badger to visit us. He is so soft and cute.
