Jellybean Tasting

Today we looked in our latest big blue box. This one was called 'Super Senses'.

We did the jellybean tasting test.
First we got into pairs and 1 person put on a blindfold.
They were given a jellybean to smell and they had to guess the flavour or colour.
We found this bit easy.
Next we had to hold our nose and taste a jellybean. This was a bit harder as we couldn't see or smell the jellybean.

We found out that the senses of sight and smell and taste work together to give flavour to our food.

Cress Sandwiches

We planted some cress seeds in our classroom to see if they would grow.
They did! We got some bread and margarine and made cress sandwiches. Most of us loved them.
A lot of us decided we want to grow cress at home!

Athletics Sports

Today we had our school Athletic Sports. It ws a lot of fun as we threw beanbags (shotput), threw quoits (discus), pony jumps (hurdles), jumping, and relays. We then went down to the bottom field to join the seniors and complete the sprints.
It was a lot of fun.

BlackOut Day

We all dressed in Black to wish the All Blacks lots of luck!

moveMprove

For 8 weeks on Thursdays we are doing moveMprove. It is a lot of fun as we balance, swing and practise our landings.

Planting veges

We planted some veges in the garden with Room 6 children. We can't wait for them to grow.

Inside the Big Blue Box is...

It was a box with science stuff in it from Hutt Science. 
The theme of this box is 'Sweet and Sour'.

We opened our big blue box today and inside was lots of lunch boxes and some red cabbage!!
The lunch boxes had all the things we needed for the experiments.
We didn't do the experiment that needed the red cabbage.

We decided to make sherbet. All the things we needed were in the box.

Mmmmm - not sure about the taste!

 We had a lot of discussion about what it tasted like and what happened to the powder when we put it in our mouth - it dissolved

Our question was - where did the water come from??
We had lots of ideas
Sophie said the powder mixed with the saliva in our mouth and it dissolved.

We learned that when the citric acid and baking soda mixed with our saliva, it creates Carbon dioxide and this causes the fizzy sensation on our tongue.

It was a lot of fun.

We had a big blue box delivered to our classroom. We didn't know what was inside it, so we tried to guess.

WHAT IS IN THE BIG BLUE BOX ?

Tennis Coaching

Today we had our first coaching session for Hot Shots Tennis. Paddy is our coach.
We started by playing games to warm up. We played a variation of Rob the Nest. It was fun.
When we were warm, we practised throwing and catching the ball over the net with a partner. We then progressed onto hitting the thrown ball with a racquet. It wasn't easy!!
We are all looking forward to next Monday for our next session.
